FAQ's
What is the youngest age at which a child's DNA can be tested? Immediately following birth. chord blood or saliva.
Is there any difference in testing accuracy when comparing a buccal DNA swab sample to a DNA blood sample? No.
How is a buccal DNA sample collected? Cotton tipped swabs are placed on both sides of the pocket area where the base of the cheek meets the donor's jawbone also know as the buccal cavity. This area is briskly rubbed 8-12 times with the swab to collect what are called epithelial cells from the inside of the cheek which contain DNA.
Does the presence of saliva, food, bacteria, toothpaste or tobacco affect the accuracy of a DNA test? Usually not although we recommend that the oral cavity be rinsed with water prior to sample collection.
Are other tests conducted on the buccal sample in addition to the DNA evaluation? Absolutely not.
Can paternity be established without collecting a buccal sample from the mother? Yes, we test the alleged father and child only.
Would the mother, child, and alleged father need to meet at the same geographic location for DNA sample collections? No
Is it possible for the mother to test with DNA that is not that of the child? Yes, but extremely unlikely. A possible mix up at the hospital birthing center may have occured.
Do each of us have unique DNA characteristics? Yes, these characteristics or genes are the building blocks of your physical and mental composition. Simply said, genes make you who you are. Your parents and ancestors all contribute to your genetic structure.
If the alleged father is deceased is it still possible to determine paternity. Yes, upon his death, the County Corner may have a blood sample that might have been drawn for drug and alcohol levels in storage that you can acquire. If the deceased was under the care of a doctor and/or hospital prior to passing they may have blood or urine samples in storage that would make excellent DNA test samples, Contact them to find out. The alleged father's father, his grandfather, his brothers and uncles could be considered for dna paternity evaluation. If an autopsy was performed the coroner may have collected blood and tissue samples, contact the County Coroner. Perhaps a lock of hair from the deceased was presented to the surviving spouse or another family member. A root or follicle attached to a hair strand is an excellent source of DNA.
What is the most common DNA sample collected for paternity analysis? The buccal (cheek) sample is now the world standard.

Why you should proceed with paternity testing and take control of your uncertainty now!
The child most certainly deserves to know. The child's conception and birth were not of their choice but yours. The child needs to identify and bond with it's biological father and family and enjoy the feeling of belonging. The child needs to be wanted and loved. Families, relatives, and friends on both sides of the father and mother want and need to know for any number of reasons including potential blood or organ transplant needs.
Collect your DNA paternity samples in the privacy of your home or request Chain of Custody sample collections. Results in 3-5 business days
